For iPhone, WhatsApp has received an important update through build version 2.19.20. The latest update contains anticipated biometric authentication that allows users to lock Whatsapp on their iPhone model by deploying a country face ID or touch ID. The new feature, which was anticipated from October last year – when it was first reported to add new authentication, it works like this how you can lock Outlook or Signal on your iPhone. It essentially applies biometric authentication to open WhatsApp. However, the feature does not add extra security to your personal WHATSAPP conversations. For Android, Whatsapp is also in the rumors of bringing a uniform form of authentication layer in the coming future.

With the latest Whatsapp update, you can lock the Whatsapp app with Face ID or Touch ID by going to Settings> Account> Privacy> Screen lock. Once you’ve gone to the screen lock screen, the app shows the available authentication method – either Face ID or Touch ID – which you can enable to lock your WhatsApp. You can also choose whether you want the need for biometric authentication immediately or after a minute interval, for 15 minutes or an hour. Whatsapp still allows users to respond to messages of notifications and answers, without the need for biometric authentication. In addition, after successfully unlocking the correct biometrics after unlocking – through the Face ID or Touch ID feature – The Instant Messaging app opens access to all your messages. This means that the latest development does not lock your WhatsApp Chat on an individual basis.

The ability to unlock on FaceSpe using Face ID or Touch ID works similarly that Outlook and Signal are offering biometric authentication on their iPhone app for several months. Apart from this, WhatsApp can help officially launch its payment facility in India and other markets in unlocking the use of biometrics. This facility is in the testing phase from February last year. Specifically, which supports the UPI-based transaction on Google, it is already supporting Face ID and Touch ID to enable biometric authentication.
