Aadhaar update services by banks

New Delhi: UIDAI has said that by order of the Supreme Court to ban the use of the base, there will be no impact on enrollment and updating services in banks, post offices and government premises. This step comes as service providers can still use the offline verification tool that takes advantage of unique IDs without authentication.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the basis for opening a bank account is not compulsory, but the norms set for banks and post offices to maintain base enrollment and updated activity will remain as they are different from the certification services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) ), Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO, said in an interview.

“Base is being used in offline mode in the offline mode, for opening bank accounts and other services, and the use of base in direct benefit transfer, PAN-ITR has also been organized constitutionally, the role of banks is important The entire base ecosystem will be, therefore, the base enrollment and updating activity started by the bank’s name and updated offices will continue as it is being done earlier. Was. ”

Working on enrollment and updating requests for Aadhar is independent of the certification services, Pandey said that whether UIDAI will review its plans for these centers, now banks cannot use account-based authentication.

“Aadhaar card is more than 60-70 crore people as their only identity proof, so voluntary offline usage will continue, both banks and post offices have set up 13,000 centers for each. We will open more centers on the basis of requirement. ” said

Similarly, there is no change or review in the norms to do enrollment and updating activities by UIDAI.

UIDAI has said that service providers can use an offline verification tool such as e-Base and QR (Quick Response) codes that take advantage of the base without authentication, access to biometrics, or reveal a 12 digit number.

UIDAI believes that this would mean that if people want to use base-based offline mode then individuals will need services like enrollment and updating.

The issuing body is also planning to create awareness about these offline verification methods with active engagement with the technology industry this week.

In a recent decision with far-reaching consequences, the Supreme Court had upheld the constitutional validity of ‘Aadhaar’ but limited the scope of the controversial biometric identification project, compulsory for bank accounts, mobile connections or school admissions Not there.

There was nothing in the act that violates the right to confidentiality of a person, in the 4 to 1 verdict, the Five-Judge Constitution Bench has approved the use of the basis for welfare schemes (the world’s largest biometric ID program).

The court will mandate the allotment of Income Tax (IT) returns and allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN), but it will hit section 57 of the base (Target and Financial and Other Subsidy, Target and Targeted Distribution of Services) Act, 2016. Private companies such as telecom companies or other corporations are allowed to take advantage of biometric base data.
